24 June 3.15pm-5.15pm Introduction to veil technique.All levels welcome Veil is one of the most beautiful props used in belly dance, often portrayed as an extension of the dancer body; elegant and mesmerizing, learning how to dance with veil will extend your dance vocabulary and ad special touch into your dance routine. In this class you will learn basic veil technique, travelling steps, tricks and how to connect musically to the song. Cost:£25.00 Veils will be provided during class. 8 July 3.15pm-5.15pm -Introduction to drum solo with live tabla. All levels welcome. Drum solos are one of the most challenging but also very effective dance routines, requiring good understand of the Middle Eastern rhythm and excellent body isolation. This course will introduce you to the basic Arabic rhythms, how create easy routines and to improve your understanding of the music by listening and dancing to live tabla. Cost: £25.00
9 September- 6 weeks Belly dance course complete beginner and level 1 at Studio K Richmond starting at 4.30-5.30pm, every Sunday Following successful belly dance classes at Studio K Richmond, Sarasvati is going to run another 6 weeks intensive course focusing on building belly dance vocabulary and strengthening the technique of Oriental Dance. This belly dance course is open to complete beginners and students who have already accomplished one year of dance training. This course focuses on joining basic moves together to Baladi and Maxum rhythm which will give further foundation into the future dance choreography. In this course, you will also learn about:
Correct body posture and positioning.
Correct lower body executions (hip drops, circles, figure 8, shimmies)
Correct upper body executions (belly rolls, chest drops, shoulder shimmies)
Arm positioning complementing the movement.
Basic Egyptian steps to a chosen Middle Eastern rhythm.
Theory of Middle Eastern dance and its variations.
Transitions between each belly dance step.
Advance shimmies and travelling shimmies
Each class starts with a warm up which will be followed by learning lower and upper body moves and learning how to apply the move to the Middle Eastern rhythm. Students will be expected to practise these moves during their spear time and from time there will be a video recording made to encourage the student to understand the move structure. Bellydance articles and sample music will be also available for students to familiarise themselves before each class. Please bring comfortable clothing (leggings, skirt with shorts or long loose dress) with top and water. Shimmy belts will be provided on the day.
